What a fantastic adventure! I don't know if the East Coast of the U.S. (aside from Niagra Falls) can compete with Iceland for natural beauty, but am looking forward to maybe seeing you nonetheless.
I almost feel now as though I cannot offer you the guest room (which I kitted out especially for an early visit from just such a much-missed Edinburgh friend.) I don't want to spoil the nostalgia of your couch-surfing tour, but the living room couch is also very comfy!
Am taking a break from September 2008 to January 2009 and travelling around the world to visit family and friends. Postcards are fun and will happen (every 1000 km or so hopefully) but a blog seemed to be the easiest way of letting people know where I was, and how soon I am likely to darken their doorsteps!
The rough plan is [format: Place (departure date)]: UK (Sep 13) Iceland (Sep 17) US East coast (Sep 25) US Midwest + New Mexico (Oct 9) US West coast (Oct 14) Fiji (Oct 22) NZ (Nov 5) Aus (Nov 11) Malaysia and Singapore (Nov 17) India Bangalore + Mumbai (Nov 23) India Delhi (Jan 10)
For those of you who don't know - I finished working as a bioinformatician at the University of Edinburgh in September 2008, and will be joining the same lab again for a PhD in Evolutionary Genomics in January 2009.
Apologies in advance for the timelag because I'm only getting online once every few days and writing catch-up posts then.
